Originally from Sanikiluaq, Kelly Fraser is now a household name in Nunavut. She has performed on countless stages, from the halls of Parliament, to the United Nations, to the Eiffel Tower, to name just a few. Her award nominations include Junos and Indigenous Music Awards, and in 2019, she received the prestigious Indspire Award.
Her goal is to share joy, healing, and cultural pride through a mix of traditional Inuit music and modern production. Her lyrics are in English and Inuktitut, seamlessly blending the two languages with her powerful, insightful, and politically-relevant lyrics.
Like many other Inuit, Kelly has been through many personal struggles, ranging from substance abuse and the loss of her father to suicide. She uses her pain as inspiration to continue positively impacting Inuit youths.
Kelly also teaches and helps organize Nunavut Hitmakerz, a project which aims to give Inuit youth opportunities to learn creative expression and technical skills.
